Feeling lost, stuck, disconnected, bored, unfulfilled or simply overwhelmed?

I understand your pain…

As a specialized grief and trauma-informed therapist… I fully understand how losses, disruptive/painful life experiences, and ineffective relating and communication can result in one feeling lost, stuck, disconnected, bored, unfulfilled or simply overwhelmed.

Needing to understand my own childhood wounds due to the trauma(s) I experienced has focused my compassion and training. Traumatizing experiences can disrupt the connection between one’s thinking, feeling and body sensations in the autonomic nervous system of the brain, creating ongoing emotional dysregulation.

I understand the science of trauma…

Thus, I utilize neurobiological and brain-based therapies, integrated with somatic (mind-body) interventions to restore wholeness.

How I view spirituality…

I feel called to be present with those who weep by going through the dark places with them, compassionately bearing witness to their pain as well as calling for their resiliency.

This practice gives me renewed meaning and purpose while I’m able to help those suffering live their life anew.

My Masters of Divinity degree (MDiv, 1998) may rightly suggest that spirituality has been an important facet in my personal development and healing journey. Rest assured, I realize spiritual practice and participation in a faith community may be beneficial for some. But, I’m also keenly aware of the disrespect, pain and disenfranchisement that some religious orders and faith systems have exacted on individuals.

Should we work together, I will respect all of who you are, regardless of race, gender identity, age, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status and religious practice or non-theistic or humanist orientation. I want each to create their most integrated and meaningful life!

What matters most to me…

My faith journey, my commitment to healing, my early losses and my journey to overcome them have defined my value system.

I simply want to be faithful to using my gifts well for the service of others.

If you were to ask me or any of my close friends what words continue to define me, they would have to be

Authenticity — I value this because it engenders trust, fosters vulnerability (essential for growth/change) and levels differences due to race, socioeconomic status, culture, gender.

Commitment — Assuring clients I really have their back, will not give up on them, when they want to give up on themselves.

Forthrightness — Not shying away from difficult emotions or challenges to try to protect them. Feeling my trust of them able to handle what I am saying helps them trust themselves.

Honesty/trust — I trust that clients know what is best for themselves, which increases their ability to trust themselves.  Honesty combined with authenticity disables defenses created by pain that are keeping them from breaking free and growing.

Collaboration — Growth/healing happens within relationship, within interaction with one another.  Persons do not need fixing, but relating to, so they can relate to themselves more lovingly, healthfully.  A collaborative experience is essential to creating the context for change.

Inclusion/Acceptance — There is no one or no experience that precludes one from being loved, being their best selves.  Again, a context of acceptance/inclusion begins to help clients accept themselves, relate to themselves in love/care, the only foundation for healing.

Hope: My hope over time is to build a community that rallies around the underserved and supports them as they move through grief, discover a more meaningful life, and thereby reduce the debilitating effects of trauma in their lives.
